PALM SPRINGS, Fla. — A Palm Beach County woman has been arrested after authorities say she fired a handgun from her vehicle toward a group of people that included an infant following a heated confrontation outside a local restaurant.
Jessica Piltz, 38, was taken into custody by the Palm Springs Police Department and charged with four counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Discharging a Firearm from a Vehicle following an incident that occurred on June 7, 2026, in the area of Wood Haven Plaza in Palm Springs.
According to investigators, police responded after reports that a single gunsh0t had been fired from a vehicle in the direction of a crowd gathered outside a restaurant near Forest Hill Boulevard. Detectives later interviewed multiple individuals who were present during the incident, including family members and an infant child.
Authorities allege the confrontation began after a disagreement in the restaurant parking lot. Witnesses told investigators that Piltz was attempting to leave a parking space when a verbal exchange developed between her and several members of another family. According to statements gathered by police, Piltz allegedly yelled at the group before driving toward the exit of the plaza.
Investigators say the situation escalated when Piltz reportedly stopped her vehicle on Kirk Road and continued arguing with the group. Witnesses told detectives that she exited her vehicle and allegedly challenged members of the group while making threatening remarks.
According to the affidavit, several witnesses independently stated that Piltz then retrieved a firearm from her vehicle, inserted a magazine, and chambered a round. One witness reported immediately attempting to secure an infant child after observing the firearm.
Multiple witnesses told police they observed Piltz point the weapon toward the group while waving it from side to side. Authorities said several people feared for their safety as the confrontation intensified.
One witness reported seeing Piltz partially seated in her vehicle with one leg outside before allegedly firing a single round in the direction of the crowd. Another witness stated an infant was present during the incident, while investigators noted that a child was also reportedly inside Piltz’s vehicle and was allegedly telling her to stop.
After the sh0t was fired, witnesses told police that Piltz fled northbound from the area in a dark-colored SUV.
Detectives interviewed multiple individuals who were present during the incident, and according to the affidavit, all provided consistent accounts regarding the firearm, the verbal threats, and the gunshot. Investigators stated that none of the individuals involved aggressively approached Piltz prior to the alleged shooting.
Police concluded that probable cause existed to charge Piltz with four counts of aggravated assault, one for each person allegedly placed in fear during the incident, as well as one count of discharging a firearm from a vehicle.
No injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire.
The case remains active and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
