A Boynton Beach man is facing multiple felony charges after Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office investigators linked him to a May 31 sh00ting in West Palm Beach that left one person injured and an apartment struck by gunfire.
According to an arrest report, Youbins Chery, 23, was arrested on July 9, 2026, and charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder and Shooting Into an Occupied Dwelling, Vehicle, Building, or Aircraft. Court records indicate the charges were filed without bond.
Investigators say deputies responded to the sh00ting on May 31 after reports of gunfire at an apartment complex in West Palm Beach. One victim suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, while numerous rounds also struck an occupied apartment. Detectives recovered more than twenty spent shell casings from the scene and documented multiple bullet impacts on the building.
According to the affidavit, witnesses told investigators that three males dressed in black approached a group gathered outside the apartment complex and began a conversation before the violence erupted. As people attempted to run for cover, the suspects allegedly opened fire toward the group and the residence.
The investigation later uncovered information suggesting the incident may have stemmed from an earlier dispute involving individuals connected to both the victim and the suspects. Detectives reviewed witness statements, surveillance footage, cellphone records, and license plate reader data while attempting to identify those responsible.
A major break in the case came when investigators recovered a damaged cellphone believed to have been dropped by one of the fleeing suspects. According to the report, records associated with the device eventually led detectives to Chery. Investigators also obtained surveillance footage and vehicle tracking information that allegedly placed a vehicle associated with Chery in the area around the time of the sh00ting.
The affidavit further alleges that detectives identified connections between Chery and another individual involved in an earlier altercation that investigators believe may have provided a motive for retaliation. Witness interviews and digital evidence were used to support those findings.
During the course of the investigation, search warrants were executed at locations in Palm Beach County and St. Lucie County. Law enforcement officers recovered electronic devices, firearm-related items, and additional evidence that was later reviewed as part of the case.
Detectives ultimately concluded that the totality of the evidence—including witness statements, surveillance video, cellphone records, and vehicle tracking data—provided probable cause to charge Chery with attempted first-degree murder and firing into an occupied dwelling.
Chery was taken into custody on July 9 and transported to the Palm Beach County Jail. Court proceedings are expected to continue as prosecutors move forward with the case.
