BOCA RATON, Fla. — A Boynton Beach man has been arrested and charged with First-Degree Murder with a Firearm following a lengthy investigation into the fatal sh00ting of Boca Raton businessman Arman Motiwalla, according to court records and investigators.
Police say the investigation began after officers responded to reports of a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in a Boca Raton parking lot during the early morning hours of April 8, 2026. When officers arrived, they located Motiwalla deceased at the scene.
According to the probable cause affidavit, detectives immediately launched an extensive investigation involving surveillance footage, cellular data, vehicle tracking technology, search warrants, and forensic analysis. Investigators reviewed security video that allegedly showed a suspicious sedan positioned in a parking area near the location where Motiwalla was later found. Detectives noted several unique characteristics about the vehicle, including visible damage and modifications that allegedly allowed them to identify and track it through multiple investigative tools.
Authorities allege that surveillance footage captured activity in the area shortly before the homicide occurred. Investigators further stated that digital evidence, including cellphone records and text message communications, helped establish movements and interactions that became central to the investigation.
As detectives continued their investigation, they reportedly located the vehicle believed to be connected to the case and later executed search warrants. During those searches, investigators said they recovered items including ammunition, magazines, clothing accessories, financial records, and written notes containing information related to individuals involved in the investigation.
Court records indicate that detectives also obtained historical cellphone location information and conducted forensic examinations of electronic devices seized during the investigation. Investigators allege that this evidence, combined with surveillance footage and other digital records, linked the suspect to activities surrounding the homicide.
According to the affidavit, detectives developed probable cause to arrest Willie James Byrd Jr., who was subsequently taken into custody and charged with First-Degree Murder with a Firearm.
The case remains active as it moves through the Palm Beach County court system. As with all criminal cases, the charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
The death of Arman Motiwalla has drawn significant attention throughout the community. Friends, family members, and those who knew him have mourned the loss of a local businessman whose life was tragically cut short.
Palm Beach and Broward Mugshots extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Arman Motiwalla during this difficult time.
