BELLE GLADE — A confrontation outside a neighborhood store ended with a woman allegedly f*r*ng at a 16-year-old and striking an occupied SUV, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office warrant-request affidavit filed October 28.

Detectives identified the suspect as Keyera J. Burkes, 28, and sought charges of attempted first-degree m*rd*r and sh**t*ng into an occupied vehicle in connection with the October 21 incident near Southwest Sixth Street and Southwest Avenue C.

The teenager was not struck. Neither of the two men inside the damaged vehicle reported injuries.

According to investigators, surveillance footage captured a confrontation that escalated from a physical *tt*ck to a sh**t*ng. The affidavit says the teenager approached Burkes and struck her before running across the street to join two other juveniles.

The teenager continued exchanging words with Burkes, detectives wrote. Burkes then allegedly took a h*ndg*n from a man standing nearby, pointed it toward the teenager, lowered it and raised it again before f*r*ng once.

The round shattered the rear windshield of a Nissan Rogue occupied by two men. Investigators said the b*ll*t struck the vehicle less than 10 feet from the teenager, causing him to duck and jump away.

Deputies later recovered a b*ll*t fragment from the vehicle’s driver-side floorboard.

The affidavit describes several people handling the w**p*n afterward. One man allegedly took it from Burkes and tucked it into his waistband. Detectives said Burkes then bent toward the ground in a movement they believe was consistent with collecting the spent casing. Later footage allegedly showed her holding the w**p*n again and handing it to another man.

Investigators did not recover the f*r**rm or a shell casing during their initial search.

Detectives also reviewed jail calls involving the mother of the two other juveniles. According to the affidavit, she blamed Burkes for leaving *mm*n*t**n in her vehicle, which she said caused her bond to be revoked. Before the sh**t*ng, she allegedly told her sons to tell the teenager to “put pressure on her” to claim the *mm*n*t**n.

During a follow-up interview, the teenager admitted striking Burkes and acknowledged that he had not initially told investigators the whole truth because he did not want anyone to get into trouble, the affidavit states.

Two juvenile witnesses later identified Burkes in separate photo lineups. Their mother also identified her from surveillance footage, according to detectives.

The affidavit concludes by requesting the two charges. The supplied document does not establish whether Burkes has since been arrested.

All allegations remain subject to proof in court. Burkes is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
