What happened: A man was taken into custody for his alleged role in a 2023 restaurant robbery, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Background: PBSO says that Eric Anthony Mitchell was taken into custody after he was identified as the suspect in a July 5, 2023 burglary of the Rice King restaurant located at 1225 45th Street, Suite 503 in Mangonia Park. The night the crime occurred, surveillance video from a nearby convenience store showed Mitchell walking through the plaza at 2:01 a.m., picking up a large rock, throwing it at the restaurant window, and entering the business and fleeing moments later.
Minutes later, a deputy found the glass window broken, as well as the rock that they believed was used to smash the window. Additional video captured him wearing a neon green polo shirt, silver/gray gym shorts, black Nike sandals and his hair in a ponytail as he fled toward North Australian Avenue and 45th Street.
During their investigation, PBSO also learned that Mitchell had been arrested on July 9, 2023 in connection with another burglary, and his booking and driver’s license photos matched up with the ones from the Mangonia Park robbery. As such, PBSO has now found probable cause to charge Mitchell with burglary of a structure causing $1,000 or more in damage and petit theft of property valued between $100 and $750.
