What happened: Friends and fellow church members are remembering a 31-year-old West Palm Beach minister for the music, faith and service he devoted to his community before he was sh0t and klled early Sunday morning.
Background: Minister Akeem Moore served as the Minister of Worship at Mount Calvary Baptist Church of West Palm Beach and was involved in the church’s Evangelistic Outreach, Technology and Social Media ministries, according to a statement provided to News by the church. But to those who knew him, Moore was much more than his titles.
“He was indeed a masterful artist,” said longtime friend and community leader Bryce Graham. “Everything that he did, from music to preaching, and just caring for people in general, he just mastered it.” Graham described Moore as an “excellent, kind-hearted individual” and a “gentle giant.” “He was my friend, but he was also a brother,” Graham said.
“Times that I experienced my own downfalls and shortcomings, he was there to uplift me, to uphold me, to just be a friend of encouragement and a light.” Moore's reach extended beyond one congregation. The Family Worship Church said Moore was also a musician there and was considered family by its congregation.
In a Facebook tribute , the church said Moore had delivered a message titled “The Lord Is Good” just one week before his death. Music and ministry had been part of Moore's life for years.
Maurice Johnson said he knew Moore from the time Moore was a chld attending an after-school program at JFK Middle School and watched him grow into adulthood.
