What happened: A Palm Beach County School District police officer facing discipline over his relationship with a former student made 62 phone calls with her lasting at least 30 minutes over about six weeks, including one that lasted nearly 7 1/2 hours, according to newly released internal-affairs records.
Background: The School District Police Department sustained five policy violations against Officer Christopher Delgado , a school resource officer and Dungeons & Dragons club leader at a middle school. A separate criminal investigation found no probable cause to establish that a crime occurred, records show.
As previously reported, Delgado was recommended for a 40-hour unpaid suspension and a 30-day loss of take-home vehicle privileges. The recommended discipline followed sustained findings for violating policies involving relationships with students, transporting citizens, prohibited on-duty activity, on-duty responsibilities and standard of conduct.
the former student’s father contacted the department in February after reviewing his daughter’s cellphone records. He had become concerned after a Department of chldren and Families investigator referenced details about his daughter’s life, including concerns involving food, dental care and concert tickets.
The father found frequent calls between his daughter and Delgado, whom she met while attending the middle school and participating in the officer’s Dungeons & Dragons club. Phone records reviewed by investigators documented 62 calls of 30 minutes or longer between Jan.
The report said 53 of the calls were initiated by Delgado, while nine were initiated by the former student.
