What happened: A woman in Jupiter is accused of stealing a purse containing credit and debit cards, according to the Jupiter Police Department.
Background: Chantel Chavette Johnson, 42, was taken into custody earlier this week in connection with a purse theft that took place in Oct. Jupiter Police say that on Oct.
2, 2024, Johnson and another woman approached a female VIC, who alleged to police that one of the women distracted her while the other stole her purse. Inside of the purse was about $40 in cash, her driver’s license, health insurance cards, and credit and debit cards.
Not too long after the theft, the VIC began receiving notifications showing card use at a Staples and a Publix in Jupiter, with the Staples receipts totaling nearly $600 using two of the VIC’s cards. That card was then collected by Jupiter Police for fingerprint testing, which identified Johnson’s fingerprints on it.
JPD also says that Flock cameras and other video sources helped track down a rented minivan that Johnson was traveling in. She is being charged with criminal use of personal identifying information, unlawful possession of a stolen credit card, and fraudulent use of a credit card.
