What happened: A Lake Worth man has been charged with vehicular homicide after police said he was driving in excess of 100 mph when his BMW M4 struck and klled a 14-year-old Boynton Beach boy.
Background: Michael Scott Bates, 35, turned himself in at the Palm Beach County Jail on Sept. 10, according to the Boynton Beach Police Department.
Following what police called a lengthy Traffic Division investigation, detectives determined Bates was traveling more than 100 mph at the time of the June 12 crash that klled Christopher Cetoute. Cetoute, 14, was crossing North Congress Avenue near the 4600 block shortly before 9 p.m.
when he was hit by the southbound BMW, police said. Boynton Beach Fire Rescue pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police initially said the BMW appeared to have been traveling at a high rate of speed. Investigators later identified Bates as the driver and continued investigating the crash.
Bates is charged with vehicular homicide.
