Palm Beach County Homicide Investigation Update: West Palm Beach woman accused of driving despite seizure history in deadly 7-vehicle crash

What happened: A West Palm Beach woman is facing a manslaughter charge after investigators say she drove despite a history of seizures, causing a deadly seven-vehicle crash in 2025.

Background: 46-year-old Elizabeth Marie Romero Diaz was driving a Mazda SUV when she approached traffic stopped at a red light at the intersection of Military Trail and Westgate Avenue and failed to stop, slow down, or take evasive action. The SUV reportedly slammed into the back of a Chevrolet SUV, setting off a chain reaction involving five other vehicles, according to previous reports.

A seventh vehicle was also damaged by debris from the crash. Several other people, including Diaz, were subsequently taken to St.

Mary Medical Center. During the investigation, Diaz told deputies she believed she "blacked out" before the crash.

Investigators also discovered Diaz had been involved in another crash on Military Trail just weeks earlier. that crash was attributed to a medical episode, and Diaz told investigators at the time that she had experienced a seizure and had not taken her seizure medication because she had not picked it up.

Diaz had been prescribed an anti-seizure medication days before that earlier crash.
