Palm Beach County Public Safety Update: 88-year-old man dies 10 days after crash at busy intersection

What happened: A crash between two luxury SUVs at a busy Delray Beach intersection turned deadly after deputies say an 88-year-old passenger succumbed to his injuries nearly ten days later.

Background: the deadly wreck happened on the evening of October 6, when an 83-year-old driver was heading southbound on Hagen Ranch Road in a 2019 Lexus, sitting in the left-turn lane at Lake Ida Road under a flashing yellow arrow. As she turned left, she pulled directly into the path of a northbound 2021 Lexus driven by a 33-year-old man who had a green light.

The front of the northbound SUV slammed squarely into the passenger side of the turning vehicle, sending both cars spinning violently across the asphalt before they finally came to rest. While the drivers managed to escape with minor injuries, Levy's condition took a tragic turn.

Days later, on October 15, he succumbed to his injuries in the hospital and was pronounced dead. Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office traffic investigators are continuing to review the deadly crash.
