What happened: A mother and daughter are accused of stealing $1,725 worth of merchandise from retail shops at The Boca Raton , including shoes and swimsuits, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Background: 25, Boca Raton police responded to The Boca Raton, at 491 E. Camino Real, after hotel security reported that two women had returned to the property a day after an alleged shoplifting incident.
Security told officers that surveillance video showed Joanne Denardo, 57, putting a pair of beige shoes in a dog stroller. Her daughter, Danielle Spoleti, 30, was seen leaving the store wearing a pair of blue shoes and carrying the beige shoes she had worn earlier, according to the affidavit.
The two allegedly left without paying. Spoleti told officers she thought her mother was going to buy the shoes.
Denardo said she had returned to the property to return two swimsuits she had taken. Officers found the swimsuits under the stroller’s carriage mat, beneath the dog, with their tags still attached, the affidavit says.
Denardo and Spoleti are facing charges of coordinated retail theft.
