BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — Nearly three years after his arrest, Ron Juba’s Broward County felony-murder and armed-robbery case remains unresolved as prosecutors and defense attorneys continue preparing the case.
Juba is accused in connection with a deadly robbery outside Cheetah Gentlemen’s Club in Hallandale Beach on July 1, 2022.
According to the arrest affidavit, Derrick Michel and a woman were approached in the club’s parking lot by two armed men who demanded jewelry. The woman produced a firearm as the suspects attempted to flee, and gunfire followed during the encounter. Michel was struck in the neck and later died from his injuries.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage that showed the suspects arriving and escaping in a dark-colored BMW 4 Series. Detectives believed the vehicle appeared to be the same BMW used during another armed robbery outside the club approximately one week earlier.
Juba was arrested in July 2023 and charged with felony murder and armed robbery. Court records show that he pleaded not guilty. The case has since generated years of discovery filings, depositions, DNA-related proceedings, attorney changes and repeated status conferences.
Bonds were posted on four counts in the Broward case on March 24, 2025. However, Juba was later charged in a separate Miami-Dade armed-robbery investigation involving two tourists outside the EAST Miami hotel in Brickell.
Miami police alleged that Juba and two other men waited for the tourists to leave the hotel before confronting them with firearms. Juba allegedly pointed a gun at one victim, demanded jewelry and other valuables, attempted to pull a chain from the victim’s neck and threatened to kll him if he did not surrender it. Police estimated that approximately $30,000 in jewelry, watches, cash and other valuables was taken.
The suspects reportedly escaped in a black BMW 540i but made it less than a mile before the driver lost control on Brickell Avenue. Surveillance footage shows the BMW striking a median and violently overturning onto its side. Three men then climbed from the wrecked vehicle and fled through the downtown area on foot.
Police recovered stolen jewelry, two firearms, a cellphone and other evidence from the crashed BMW. Investigators said forensic evidence, phone records and assistance from the FBI ultimately helped connect Juba and the two other defendants to the robbery.
Although Juba previously obtained bond in the Broward case, the latest publicly reported Miami-Dade custody information listed him as being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
The most recent Broward docket entry shows that a status conference was held on July 10, 2026 and Juba’s next Miami court date has not yet been publicly confirmed.
