WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A 29-year-old West Palm Beach man was arrested Sunday after police say he seriously injured his grandmother during a violent stabbing incident inside a family residence.
According to a probable cause affidavit released by the West Palm Beach Police Department, officers responded to the home on May 10, 2026, after receiving a 911 call reporting a stabbing in progress.
Investigators say the suspect, identified as Keo Lavar Nottage, allegedly became involved in a heated verbal altercation with a younger family member after groceries were brought into the home ahead of a Mother’s Day dinner.
Police said the argument escalated quickly, and witnesses told investigators the suspect allegedly threatened that “someone is going to die today” before retrieving a kitchen knife.
Authorities say the suspect then attacked his grandmother, identified as Mary Sigler, stabbing her multiple times. Investigators later learned she suffered approximately 11 stab wounds and was rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center in critical condition, where she underwent emergency surgery.
A juvenile family member told detectives he attempted to help the victim before fleeing the residence and calling 911 after allegedly being threatened with the knife as well.
Surveillance footage reviewed by detectives reportedly captured portions of the incident, including the suspect chasing the juvenile outside while armed with a knife before attempting to leave the property.
Responding officers arrived to find the suspect and the juvenile engaged in a physical altercation in the driveway. The situation was quickly brought under control, and the suspect was detained.
Police said the suspect later received treatment for a hand injury before being transported to the West Palm Beach Police Department for questioning. According to investigators, he acknowledged there had been blood involved in the incident but declined to provide further details.
Nottage was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The investigation remains active as the case proceeds through the court system.
