What happened: A local animal welfare organization is offering a $5,000 reward as investigators work to identify a person suspected of sh00ting cats near the Sunshine Flea Market in Palm Beach County.
Background: Furry Friends Humane is partnering with Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Animal Crimes Unit in the investigation. Investigators say Animal Care and Control was notified last month after a cat was found dead from a suspected gunshot wound near the flea market on South Military Trail.
A community member also provided video that appeared to show a suspect sh00ting at cats in the area. A necropsy later confirmed the cat died from gunshot wounds.
Authorities say additional video helped investigators obtain a clearer image of the suspect, but he has not yet been identified. Investigators believe the person may be linked to multiple cat shootings in the area, including the sh00ting of a cat named Zoe.
Zoe survived but suffered severe injuries after her left front leg was shattered. The leg was later amputated, and she is now recovering in the care of Furry Friends Humane.
"We are incredibly grateful that Zoe survived, but no animal should have to suffer this kind of violence," said Jason Gluck, CEO of Furry Friends Humane.
